Honda Accord Technology Features

  • 2017 Honda Accord

Milwaukee drivers shopping for a midsize sedan should have the Honda Accord technology features on their mind. Since the 2013 model year, the Accord has been pushing what drivers expected when it comes to standard features, receiving connectivity upgrades with every new year. Recent updates have made Honda Sensing safety features available across the trim lineup, taking auto safety to new heights.

Connectivity Features

If you hear “Honda Accord technology features,” there’s a good chance that your mind flashes to connectivity and convenience options. You can find the following standard and available technology features on 2017 Accord sedan and coupe models:

  • Bluetooth HandsFreeLink: Bluetooth has moved beyond simple phone calls, allowing drivers to stream audio wirelessly from their phones, transfer data, and send and receive SMS texts.
  • Honda i-MID: An 8-inch touchscreen interface with 800×400 resolution puts all of the Accord’s settings at your fingertips, just a touch away.
  • Display Audio Touchscreen: Expand the control and connectivity of the Accord with the available 7-inch Display Audio touchscreen, supplementing the i-MID and bringing software like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for improved connectivity.
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay: Connecting a smartphone to a car used to be hit or miss, with some phones working better than others. With Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, two of the most popular phone operating systems can now be seamlessly integrated into your vehicle, apps and all (see our video on this page for a quick Apple CarPlay setup tutorial).
  • HondaLink: This telematics system brings your car to your smartphone and vice versa, letting you schedule maintenance and integrate social media, radio, podcasts, and more via a few intuitive apps.
  • Navigation: One of the best examples of advanced Honda technology, the navigation system actually routes you around traffic jams and construction to make the drive more efficient. Use voice commands to keep your hands on the road, and let navigation explore points of interest for food or pit stops.

Advanced Safety

Advances in Honda Accord technology features mean more than staying connected behind the wheel; they mean improvements in safety inside and out. Each Accord comes standard with an Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, an array of airbags, three-point seat belts, LATCH-compliant child safety anchors, and a multi-angle rearview camera.

Honda also has a suite of advanced driver assistance and accident prevention features called Honda Sensing that brings new levels of safety to the Accord. Models equipped with these Honda Sensing features took home a 2016 Top Safety Pick+ award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.*

Adaptive Cruise Control

Adaptive Cruise Control: By monitoring the speed of cars around the Accord, this system is able to adjust cruising speeds so you’re never going too fast or too slow, but easily keeping pace with traffic.

Forward Collision Warning

Forward Collision Warning: The same system that monitors the speed of other vehicles also keeps an eye on what’s ahead of the Accord; if it senses a collision is coming, it will issue you a warning to help avoid the collision.

Collision Mitigation Braking System

Collision Mitigation Braking System: If the driver doesn’t respond to the Forward Collision Warning system quickly enough, the Collision Mitigation Braking System is able to automatically apply the brakes to slow or even stop the Accord and help reduce the risk of an accident.

Road Departure

Road Departure Mitigation System: If this system detects a movement of side-of-the-road markers, it will alert the driver that they are leaving the road and attempt to correct the drift and keep the Accord on the pavement.

Lane Departure Warning

Lane Departure Warning: This system monitors the pavement markings and alerts the driver if it senses that the Accord is drifting from its lane.

Lane Keeping Assist

Lane Keeping Assist System: This safety feature will actually help correct the drifting from the center of a lane, fighting fatigue for long drives by nudging the wheel just a bit to hold to the center of the lane.

What About Competing Cars?

While Honda was pushing the envelope in their 2013 models, competitors have been trying to catch up in recent years. When it comes to modern amenities, Honda still leads; here’s a look at some competing sedans:

  • Toyota Camry: In our full 2016 Toyota Camry review, you can see how it compared to the 2016 Accord’s features in full, but the short of it is that Toyota may compete on connectivity, but they don’t have a package comparable to Honda Sensing and still deny drivers standards like dual-zone climate control.
  • Nissan Altima: We looked at the 2016 Nissan Altima standard features and found them lacking. Nissan’s sedan requires upgrades for features like a rearview camera, with Bluetooth being the only thing it really shares in common with the Accord.
